When we need to buy medications, we spare no expense and even pay double digits. As a result, we expect products targeted to our needs, but this is not always the case. The vast majority of medical tests are carried out on middle-aged white men, excluding women and any other ethnic group from the study sample. Cinzia Silvestri, an electrical engineer, founded Bi/ond with the goal of making medical testing more inclusive and accurate by going beyond barriers and stereotypes.
Originally from the South of Italy, she left her beloved Palermo to study Electronic Engineering at Tor Vergata University in Rome and then continued her studies at the Technische Universiteit of Delft where she obtained a PhD in Microelectronics. During more than six years of academic research, Cinzia deep dives her knowledge in the micro-fabrication of silicon and consequent applications in biotechnology, until one day she catches the opportunity to transfer the infinite possibilities of microelectronics in the pioneering biological field of Organ-on-chip, thus was born Bi/ond. A Dutch biotechnology company whose disruptive innovations seek to improve in vitro drug development in the pharmaceutical industry, paving the way for personalized disease treatment.
With her at illimitHER, we'll step inside the world of biotechnology to discover that diversity is an asset, not a limit.
