In the digital age, misinformation spreads at an unprecedented speed, fuelled by social media, sophisticated algorithms, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence. Deepfakes, manipulation campaigns, and increasingly credible fake content are redefining the boundaries between what is real and what is not, undermining trust in institutions and social cohesion.
But how do the worlds of information and storytelling intersect in this context? While information is the ever-changing reflection of reality, stories operate on a different and deeper level: they touch emotional chords, foster empathy and identification, offer new perspectives, and amplify awareness. Podcasts, in particular, have emerged as the ideal medium to blend journalistic rigour with the evocative power of storytelling, creating a bridge between reality and imagination.
In this talk, Corrado Passera and Pablo Trincia, podcaster, author & writer, will guide us in a dialogue exploring the social impact of misinformation and the phenomenon of post-truth—a context in which truth is often distorted or overlooked in favour of narratives that resonate more with personal beliefs or emotions than with verifiable data and concrete facts. We will reflect on how stories—from journalistic accounts to more creative narratives—can serve as tools of awareness and resistance in an era where truth is increasingly elusive, and dystopian narratives proliferate, describing societies we hope will never come to be, yet appear as previews of an imminent future. This will be an opportunity to understand how to reclaim the value of truth and promote a more responsible and conscious use of technology and words.
